Outdoor Enthusiasts Experience Summer Camp Like Never Before at Camp Jeep(TM)AUBURN HILLS, Mich., May 5 -- This summer thousands of people from across the country will migrate to Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains to experience summer camp like never before. Their destination is an outdoor playground where they can partake in three action-packed days of off-road driving, fly-casting, mountain biking, kayaking and other exhilarating outdoor activities. Now in its fifth year -- taking place for the first time east of the Mississippi -- Camp Jeep(TM) is set for August 6-8 at the historic Oak Ridge Estate, near Charlottesville, Virginia and the Wintergreen Resort. A family vacation like no other, Camp Jeep focuses on education, entertainment and the environment, providing Jeep(R) owners the opportunity to learn more about the capabilities of their vehicles in a safe and environmentally responsible manner. "Combining Virginia's rich historical characteristics and acres of sublime scenery with a variety of activities make Camp Jeep a spectacular vacation destination for Jeep owners, their families and friends," said Martin R. Levine, DaimlerChrysler's Vice President Chrysler, Plymouth, Jeep Division. "In total, more than 15,000 people from 48 states have gathered for the past four years for this unique vacation get-away. As a result, participants leave as safer and more environmentally-conscious drivers of four-wheel drive vehicles, and have a stronger tie to the Jeep family." Considered a "gateway to adventure," Camp Jeep provides a chance for owners to use their vehicles as a passport to the great outdoors. Participants will choose from myriad of activities, including a family activity center, scenic hikes, fly-fishing casting clinics, archery, kayaking, an adventure tower complete with rock climbing walls, an outdoor musical concert with fireworks and more. On Jeep 101 4x4 driving courses, owners will learn the basics of off-road driving and the capabilities of Jeep Wrangler, Cherokee and Grand Cherokee as they encounter sand, rocks, steep downhill grades and log crossings. After honing these skills, participants can set out on guided rides on surrounding scenic trails. Registration is $225 per vehicle and includes participation in all Camp Jeep activities, exhibits and the Saturday evening concert (there is no per- person charge). Interested outdoor enthusiasts who own Jeep vehicles should call 800-789-JEEP for more details.
