ABB Wins US$ 140-Million Order for GT26 Gas Turbines in the U.K.
ZURICH, Switzerland--May 5, 1999--private power market
ABB has been awarded a contract to supply power generating equipment for a privately-financed 775-megawatt combined-cycle power plant in the U.K.
The order, valued at approximately US$ 140 million, was placed by Bechtel Power Ltd, London, which is building the plant for International Generating Company (InterGen) of the U.K. The plant, to be located at Coryton, 50 kilometers east of London, is scheduled to come into commercial operation by early 2001.
Under the terms of the contract, ABB will supply two GT26 advanced gas turbines, the associated heat recovery steam generators, one steam turboset and auxiliary equipment. ABB will also provide maintenance services. The plant will burn natural gas as well as gas oil from an adjacent refinery. The electricity generated will be supplied to the national grid.
The order brings to eight the number of GT26 turbines that ABB has sold in the deregulated U.K. power market. It will ensure the power station can meet strict emission and noise requirements. The innovative design of the GT26 sequential combustion gas turbine enables it to achieve high efficiencies at both full and part load operation.
