DaimlerChrysler Corporation Has Strongest Sales Month Ever In Europe For Chrysler and JeepAUBURN HILLS, Mich., May 4 -- The successful European launch of the award-winning 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee led DaimlerChrysler Corporation's Chrysler and Jeep(R) brands to an all-time record in Europe, where sales were up 16 percent for the month. Sales outside North America as a whole for Dodge, Chrysler and Jeep were down one percent in April, with 17,539 cars and trucks sold compared to 17,713 vehicles sold during the same period in 1998. Sales totaled 11,276 in Europe, a 16 percent leap from April 1998's 9,695. Other regions include Latin America, with 3,432 units sold vs. 3,802 vehicles sold during April 1998, a 10 percent decrease; Asia Pacific, with 2,087 cars and trucks sold compared to 3,218 in April 1998, a 35 percent decrease; and Middle East/Africa, with 744 vehicles sold versus 998 during April 1998, a 25 percent decrease. Total international sales year-to-date for DaimlerChrysler's Dodge, Chrysler and Jeep brands are 58,750 versus 68,564 vehicles sold during the same period last year, a 14 percent decrease.
