General Motors Awards Pinkerton Contract for Security Services in Canada, Mexico; $168 Million Agreement Completes, Expands North American Contract

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif.--May 4, 1999-- Pinkerton's Inc. Tuesday announced it has been awarded a long-term contract expansion to provide security services to General Motors Corporation in Canada and Mexico.
With a projected value of nearly $168 million (U.S.) over eight years, this contract includes an option for GM to extend the agreement beyond the year 2006, although the value of this potential extension is undetermined.
This agreement is in addition to the $1.1 billion, eight-year security contract awarded last November to Pinkerton by GM and Delphi Automotive Systems for their U.S. operations. Together, these contracts represent the consolidation of GM's security program under a single North American agreement.
Under the expanded contract, Pinkerton will continue to provide uniformed security officer and patrol services to GM's plants and facilities in Canada and Mexico. The company will also provide security consulting, investigations and personnel protection, as well as services relating to intellectual property protection, crisis management and security-systems integration.
"The completion of this contract expansion advances the longstanding business partnership between our companies," said Denis R. Brown, Pinkerton chairman and CEO. "We are excited about continuing to provide seamless, world-class service to GM's total North American operations, as well as to Delphi in the U.S."
Pinkerton's partnership with General Motors dates back more than five years. The security company provides services to the auto maker in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Asia, Latin America and Portugal.
Pinkerton is a leading provider of world-class, global security solutions, including uniformed security officers, investigations, consulting, business intelligence, security-systems integration and employee selection services. Founded in 1850 by Allan Pinkerton, the "original private eye," Pinkerton lists more than 80 percent of the U.S. Fortune 1000 as its clients. With headquarters in Westlake Village, Calif., Pinkerton (www.pinkertons.com) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Securitas AB, based in Stockholm, Sweden. Pinkerton merged with Securitas in March 1999, forming the world's largest security company, with annual revenues of $3.5 billion (U.S.) and 114,000 employees in more than 32 countries throughout North and South America, Europe and Asia.
