Ernst & Young Accepting Applications for 2000 Automotive News PACE Awards
    DETROIT, May 4 -- Ernst & Young LLP today announced that
applications for the 2000 PACE Awards are available to automotive suppliers.
Now in its sixth year, the PACE (Premier Automotive Suppliers' Contributions
to Excellence) Awards, jointly presented by Automotive News and Ernst & Young,
recognize automotive suppliers for innovation, technological enhancement and
business performance.
    "Through the PACE Award, we're able to honor the innovative automotive
suppliers who lead the industry in delivering value to customers," said Lee
Sage, Ernst & Young's global automotive leader.  "The daring, creativity and
skill of these companies has led to the kind of breakthrough innovations in
production and processes that have translated into big gains for consumers."
    The awards program is open to suppliers to the automotive industry.
Nominations are accepted from any source.  There is no fee for entry.
    An independent panel of judges selects honorable mentions and finalists
following a review of the applications.  Winners are selected following a site
visit to the finalists' headquarters or manufacturing/product development.
They're honored for breakthrough achievements in a wide range of operations
and activities:  Process capabilities, such as order management, supplier
management, or manufacturing.  Product characteristics, such as engineering or
environmental compliance.  Business areas, such as sales, HR, finance or
office management.  Company values and relationships with employees,
customers, and shareholders.  Management skills applied to turning around or
repositioning a declining company.
    Eight winners, chosen from among 20 finalists were honored at the 1999
PACE Awards ceremony:  ASHA Corp., Benteler Automotive, Delphi Automotive
Systems/Delphi Saginaw Steering Systems, The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.,
Meritor Automotive Inc., Motorola/Semiconductor Products Sector, Stackpole
Ltd., Teleflex Inc./Teleflex Automotive Group.  Twelve semi-finalists were
recognized in 1999.
