April Showers Strong Sales Numbers for Isuzu; More VehiCROSS Sport-Utes on the Road; Amigo Up 42 Percent

CERRITOS, Calif.--(AutomotiveWire)--May 4, 1999--American Isuzu Motors Inc. (AIMI) announced retail sales results for April, boosting its year-to-date increase to 11 percent over 1998.
"This gives us reason to believe we will handily exceed our `99 objectives," said Bob Reilly, AIMI's senior vice president, chief operating officer, SUV. "Sales of the VehiCROSS, the most exciting SUV on the market today, are growing each month, to the point that it's a challenge to keep up with the demand."
While Hombre sales for the year are 45 percent ahead of 1998, limited production of the 1999 model is beginning to affect sales. The Amigo exceeded last year's sales by 42 percent at 756 units. Trooper totals came in strong with a yearly gain of 11 percent and monthly increase of 6 percent at 1,005 units. AIMI's top-seller, the Rodeo, led the sales at 4,362 units.
AIMI's sport-utility vehicles are distributed through a network of 549 dealers across the United States.
