Audi April Sales up 29.3 Percent - Best April and Best Year to Date Since 1986

    AUBURN HILLS, Mich., May 3 -- Audi of America, Inc. announced
its April sales in the U.S. today with 5,592 automobiles sold, a 29.3 percent
increase over the same month last year when sales were 4,326.  These results
mark Audi's best April and best progression of the year since 1986 with 1999
year-to-date sales of 17,051 versus 13,168 last year.  This accomplishment is
a 29.5 percent increase over last year's year-to-date pace.
    The primary drivers behind Audi's sales success in April were the
continued brisk sales of the Audi A6 and A4 range.  Sales of A6 models,
including the sedan and Avant, were up 65.5 percent (2,580 vs. 1,559).
    The Audi A4 range also enjoyed success in April with sales of 2,805, an
increase of 11.7 percent over 1998's mark of 2,510.
    Audi has displayed this kind of year-over-previous-year sales increase for
over four years, or 51 of the last 53 months.
