Federal-Mogul Receives Chrysler's Gold Pentastar Award
    SOUTHFIELD, Mich., May 3 -- Federal-Mogul Corporation's
, Waupun, Wisconsin, facility has received its second Gold
Pentastar Award from Chrysler. The award, presented by Chrysler's purchasing
and quality departments, recognizes suppliers for outstanding achievement in
several areas, including quality, delivery and warranty performance.
For the 1998 model year, the Waupun facility, which is the largest
manufacturer of valve seat inserts and valve guides in North America, achieved
scores of 100, 99 and 100 for quality, delivery and warranty, respectively.
The manufacturing facility shipped over 30 million parts to Chrysler in 1998
on time, with no defects.
"This award reflects our company's commitment to quality and
responsiveness," said Frank Tomes, executive vice president, General Products.
"It shows that we are, as our corporate purpose states, 'people serving
customers through manufacturing mastery.'"
"This achievement is even more impressive because while automobile sales
have exceeded all expectations, we were still able to delivery quality parts
on time with this increased demand," noted Phil Schwartz, Waupun plant
manager.
The Waupun facility employs 300 people and manufactures powder metal valve
seat inserts and valve guides for automotive, heavy-duty and small air-cooled
