Delphi Automotive Systems Earns GM Worldwide Supplier Award For Air Bag Sensors and Powertrain Control Modules
Kokomo And Milwaukee Facilities Receive Esteemed Supplier Recognition

KOKOMO, Ind., May 3 -- Delphi Delco Electronics Systems was
recently named one of General Motors top suppliers and received the GM
Supplier-of-the-Year award for performance in 1998. Delphi Delco Electronics
received the award for supplying powertrain control modules manufactured at
its Milwaukee plant and air bag sensors (sensing diagnostic modules) produced
in Kokomo.
Delphi's powertrain control modules integrate engine and transmission
control functions into a single module to manage engine and transmission
performance. Sensing and diagnostic modules control air bag deployment.
GM buys goods and services from more than 30,000 suppliers around the
world. Of those, only about half of one percent were recognized with the
Supplier of the Year award. Delphi Delco Electronics has received this award
for six of the seven years that the award has been in existence in the U.S.
Teams of purchasing, quality, engineering and manufacturing experts from
GM operations around the world selected the companies recognized with the
award. These teams reviewed supplier performance in quality, service and
price during the 1998 calendar year.
"We are pleased to be specially recognized by our customer as one of its
best suppliers," said Dave Wohleen, president of Delphi Delco Electronics
Systems. "Meeting GM's tough standards on price, quality and service
illustrates our organization's commitment to compete in the global marketplace
and our perseverance to win."
The awards were presented to companies in 29 countries. GM Worldwide
Purchasing buys a total of $86 billion in goods and services in support of the
approximate 8.6 million vehicles it produces in 30 countries annually.
"GM's suppliers of the year represent the 'best-of-the-best," said Harold
R. Kutner, vice president and group executive, Worldwide Purchasing and North
American Production Control & Logistics. "Of GM's 30,000 suppliers, Delphi is
one of only 184 that have achieved Supplier of the Year distinction for 1998,
an honor accorded by those suppliers who have achieved world-class levels of
quality, service, technology and price in support of General Motors."
