Executive Appointments at Timken Operations Worldwide

Executive Appointments to Strengthen Integration of Human Resource Strategy in Timken Operations Worldwide
    CANTON, Ohio, April 30 -- The Timken Company
today announced executive appointments designed to improve performance by
strengthening coordination of human resource plans and initiatives among the
company's operations worldwide.
    Roger W. Lindsay, most recently managing director - bearings - Central
Europe, becomes vice president - human resources and organization development.
He will be relocating from Romania to Canton.  "Roger's experience as director
of human resources for our Europe, Africa and West Asia operations, combined
with his business operation experience in Central Europe, provides an
excellent base for further integrating human resource initiatives into the
company's overall business strategies," said Stephen A. Perry, senior vice
president - human resources, purchasing and communications.  "This appointment
of someone with Roger's extensive international experience is consistent with
the company's global growth strategy."
    Working with Mr. Lindsay during a transitional period will be Michael E.
Flood, director - human resources, who previously indicated that he will be
retiring later this year.  "Mike has been central to developing an approach
that will have the human resources organization more closely integrated with
both Bearing and Steel Business management on a worldwide basis," said Mr.
Perry.  "His work has been key to assuring that the company's staffing needs
and associate and organizational development requirements are fulfilled in
ways that will help continue the company's success."
    Succeeding Mr. Lindsay as managing director - bearings - Central Europe
will be Charles J. DeVirgilio, now general manager - human resources - Europe,
Africa and West Asia.  He has been located in Colmar, France, and will be
moving to Romania.  "Charlie brings a wealth of both general management and
human resources experience to his new position," said Jon T. Elsasser, group
vice president - bearings - rail, EAWA.  "His previous experience includes
heading up our Timken Italia operations and human resources for our Timken
Latrobe Steel subsidiary."
    LeighAnne Baker, now completing the Sloan Program at the Stanford
University Graduate School of Business, becomes director - human resources and
organizational development for all business units in Europe, Africa and West
Asia.  She will be based in the United Kingdom.  Before going to Stanford, Ms.
Baker managed the company's New Philadelphia Bearing Plant in New
Philadelphia, Ohio.  "LeighAnne has demonstrated the kind of leadership
abilities needed to help the company achieve its growth goals throughout
Europe, Africa and West Asia," said Mr. Perry.
    Mr. Lindsay started with the company in 1990 as director - human resources
- Europe, Africa and West Asia.  In 1993, he was named executive assistant to
the vice president - bearings - North and South America.
    Mr. Lindsay received a bachelor's degree in economics and sociology from
the University of Southampton and a master's degree in management from the
Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
    Mr. Flood started his career with the company in 1968 as a systems analyst
in Canton.  He also held positions of supervisor - computer operations and
supervisor - property and casualty insurance.  In 1978, Mr. Flood moved to the
Gaffney Bearing Plant where he served as manager - employee relations -
Carolina District.  He returned to Canton in 1981 where he has held positions
of executive assistant - personnel administration, general manager - personnel
and training and  director - personnel administration.
    Mr. Flood received a bachelor's degree in industrial management from
Providence College, a master of business administration degree from Ohio State
University and juris doctorate degree in law from the University of Akron.  He
also completed the Advanced Management Program at the Harvard Business School.
    Mr. DeVirgilio started his career with the company in 1974 as a scheduler
at the Columbus Bearing Plant.  He also held positions in Columbus of
employment coordinator, supervisor - personnel, assistant superintendent -
labor relations and superintendent - labor relations.  In 1983, Mr. DeVirgilio
moved to Canton where he served as manager - hourly personnel - Canton
District and supervisor - corporate employee insurances.  He moved to Timken
Latrobe Steel Company in 1987 where he held positions of manager - labor
relations and employee benefits administration and general manager - corporate
services.  In 1996, Mr. DeVirgilio was named general manager - Timken Italia.
    Mr. DeVirgilio received a bachelor's degree in psychology from The Ohio
State University, a master of business administration degree from Xavier
University and a juris doctorate degree in law from the Capital University Law
School.
    Ms. Baker started her career with the company in 1981 as an associate
industrial engineer in Canton.  She also held positions of systems analyst -
bearing operations, systems development analyst, senior strategic management
analyst, supervisor - production control - Canton Bearing Plant and computer
integrated business principal.  In 1990, Ms. Baker was named manager - human
resources and administration at the company's Gaffney Bearing Plant in
Gaffney, South Carolina.  She returned to Canton in 1993 as a Leadership Team
member - Accelerated Continuous Improvement - bearings.
