J.H. Heafner Company Commences Solicitation of Consents for 10% Series B and Series C Senior Notes Due 20008

    CHARLOTTE, N.C.--April 30, 1999--The Heafner Group/J.H. Heafner Company ("Heafner" or the "Company") today announced that it is commencing the solicitation of consents to proposed amendments to certain definitions and covenants to the Indentures governing its 10% Series B Senior Notes (CUSIP No. 422111AB0) and 10% Series C Senior Notes (CUSIP No. 422111AC8) due 2008 (collectively, the "Notes").
    The solicitation is being made in connection with the proposed stock sale by the Gaither family to Charlesbank Equity Fund IV, Limited Partnership and is subject to conditions that are set forth in the Consent Solicitation Statement.
    The Record Date for the solicitation is the close of business today, April 30, 1999. The Expiration Date is 5:00 p.m., New York City time, on Friday, May 14, 1999, or such later date and time to which the solicitation is extended.
    Holders of the Notes must provide their consents to the proposed amendments to the Indenture at or prior to the Expiration Date in order to receive any payment for their consent. Consents should be delivered to the Tabulation Agent.
