Hayes Lemmerz International Makes Key Appointments As Merger with CMI ContinuesROMULUS, Mich., April 29 -- Hayes Lemmerz International , one of the world's leading suppliers of corner modules for the automotive and commercial highway industries, made several key appointments to its executive staff, according to Ron Cucuz, CEO and Chairman of Hayes Lemmerz. Patrick Carey has been appointed to the position of General Counsel, replacing Daniel Sandberg who was named President - Automotive Brakes Components. Mr. Carey joined Hayes Lemmerz in February 1997 as Assistant General Counsel. Prior to that time, Mr. Carey had been in practice for more than eight years of diverse experience with law firms in the Detroit area. Mr. Carey is a graduate of Princeton and the University of Michigan Law School. Mr. Carey will report directly to Mr. Cucuz. Larry Karenko, in addition to his position as Vice President - Human Resources at Hayes Lemmerz, has been appointed Vice President - Administration and will continue to report directly to Mr. Cucuz. Mr. Karenko will be responsible for the Facilities, Corporate Risk, Health Safety and Environmental, Corporate Travel, Fleet Administration and Technical Services, including administrative and cross-functional aspects of the Technical Center in Ferndale, MI. Prior to joining Hayes Lemmerz in 1994, Mr. Karenko spent 15 years with Federal Mogul where he held various Plant to Group level Human Resources positions. Reporting to Karenko are the newly promoted Mike Coffman and Diane Zekind. Coffman, formerly Director - Health, Safety and Environmental, has been appointed Director - Health, Safety, Environmental and Risk Management. In addition to HSE, Mr. Coffman will be responsible for all corporate insurance and loss control programs. Mr. Coffman, who holds a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Biological Science from Michigan Technological University, held management level positions at American Axle, Federal-Mogul Corporation, and Clayton Environmental Consultants before joining Hayes Lemmerz in 1996. Ms. Zekind, formerly Vice President, CMI - Tech Center, has been appointed to Director - Technical Services. Ms. Zekind, in addition to maintaining her current responsibility for all Tech Center administrative, facilities and maintenance functions, will assume responsibility for all of the Center's mold/tool making activities as well as certain shared technical services. Ms. Zekind, who joined CMI in 1988 and was responsible for administrative management, strategic planning and business development at the Tech Center, previously worked for General Motors in various manufacturing and engineering capacities. Ms. Zekind holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering and a Masters of Science in Manufacturing Management from General Motors Institute.
