Fleetwood RV Motor Home Sales Top $1 Billion for Fiscal 1999, an RV Industry FirstRIVERSIDE, Calif., April 28 -- The Motor Home Division of Fleetwood Enterprises, Inc., surpassed $1 billion in product sales during the fiscal year, ended April 25, 1999. The company marked this industry milestone with a celebration today, featuring the Bounder motor home that put them over the nine-figure mark. Dick Parks, senior vice president -- Fleetwood Recreational Vehicle Group, presented the Bounder to Frank DeGelas, president, Mike Thompson's RV Super Stores, the purchasing dealer. "Fleetwood RV was the first to reach this industry milestone with help from strong products, a healthy economy, high consumer confidence and favorable demographic factors," said Parks. "The RV industry had its best year in 20 years during calendar 1998. Given our commanding lead in the industry, we believe our record $1 billion in motor home sales is unlikely to be matched by another RV manufacturer for at least another decade." The $16 billion recreational vehicle industry, Fleetwood RV included, is experiencing a major sales boom, thanks in part to a long-projected surge in purchases made by baby boomers. Fleetwood RV, along with its dealer network, offers a significant number of motor home product variations from its affordable mini motor homes to the $450,000 American Heritage, appealing to a wide range of customers. Fleetwood RV boasted 13,664 motor home retail registrations in 1998. Calendar 1999 sales through February total 1,729, with 350 coming from California alone. According to Statistical Surveys, Inc., the company currently holds 38 percent of the California motor home market, making it the number one trading area for Fleetwood RV. "Mike Thompson's RV Super Stores, as California's largest Fleetwood RV dealer, is pleased to accept this special Bounder," said DeGelas. "In 1986, we accepted one of Fleetwood RV's first production Bounders, and now it is our delight to participate again in another Fleetwood milestone." Mike Thompson's RV Super Stores has three locations in California, including Colton, Fountain Valley and Santa Fe Springs. They offer more than 600 RVs and 200 floorplans, including 18 of the nation's top-selling Fleetwood RV brands. Fleetwood RV, a $3 billion Fortune 500 company based in Riverside, Calif., is the world's leading producer of recreational vehicles, including the Bounder -- the nation's number one selling RV.
