Land Rover Posts Best Results Ever in Strategic Vision's Total Quality Index(TM)
LANHAM, Md., April 28 -- Land Rover North America, Inc.
reported today that both Discovery and Range Rover achieved their best results
ever in Strategic Vision's Total Quality Index(TM). Range Rover finished third
in the luxury sport-utility-vehicle segment. Discovery placed second in the
compact segment.
Charles R. Hughes, President, Land Rover North America, said, "This is
welcomed news, as it further quantifies countless hours of work and an
immeasurable amount of dedication put forth by everyone within the Land Rover
family. Improving the quality of our vehicles and the overall ownership
experience is a critical priority for this company."
The study, conducted by the San Diego-based research firm and released
earlier this week is based on a survey of owners who purchased their new
vehicles in October and November of 1998. The Strategic Vision's Total Quality
Index(TM) considers numerous product related factors, including reliability,
safety, craftsmanship, style, ride, handling, comfort, and overall retail
experience. Additional information about Strategic Vision and the Total
Quality Index(TM) is available at http://www.vision-inc.com.
Range Rover, which achieved record sales in 1998, attained a score of 892
out of a possible 1000, placing third in its class and well above the segment
average of 870. Land Rover's Discovery achieved a score of 842, placing
second-in-class. The segment average was 833. Discovery's ratings were based
on the previous generation model. Land Rover believes the all-new Discovery
Series II, which was launched this past December, will meet or exceed the
workmanship levels achieved in the previous model.
The continuing popularity of Range Rover and the introduction of the
Discovery Series II resulted in record first-quarter sales in North America
for 1999.
Land Rover North America, Inc. is a member of the Rover Group, importing
Land Rover vehicles manufactured in Solihull, England. The Rover Group is a
wholly-owned subsidiary of the BMW Group, Munich, Germany.
