HoloTrak Scanners Speed Pick Up and Delivery at DaimlerChrysler Assembly Plants

BLACKWOOD, N.J.--April 23, 1999--Metrologic Instruments, Inc. , a leading manufacturer of laser and holographic bar code scanners, today announced that DaimlerChrysler has increased the number of Metrologic HoloTrak IS8500 omnidirectional bar code scanners in use at its assembly plant entrance and exit gates.
Since first installed at DaimlerChrysler in fall 1997, DaimlerChrysler has advised Metrologic that HoloTrak scanners have consistently read bar coded identification numbers and Standard Carrier Alpha Code (S.C.A.C.) bar codes on tractor trailers entering and exiting DaimlerChrysler's automotive assembly plants. DaimlerChrysler's PC-based host system then directs each trailer to the correct loading dock. This automatic data entry system eliminates the need for manual data entry and reduces the amount of time guard station employees spend on each tractor-trailer (freeing them up to do other tasks).
DaimlerChrysler Senior Analyst, Tom Northrop recently stated, "We have worked closely with the Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) to create a single, high quality bar code label which we expect will be used by all carriers throughout North America for trailer identification." He continued, "This standard label is designed to work with HoloTrak to ensure the best data accuracy, yard data integrity, and speed in processing arriving and departing trailers - benefiting everyone serviced by DaimlerChrysler."
Metrologic Industrial Products Marketing Manager, Frank Lodge stated, "Even in the absence of a standard label, the omnidirectional, dense scan pattern projected by Metrologic's HoloTrak scanners effectively reads bar codes of many sizes and densities, even labels positioned at an angle. Encased in a specially designed heated/ventilated outdoor enclosure for protection against the environment, HoloTrak IS8500 scanners read bar codes reliably even in bright sun, rain, clouds or snow. The HoloTrak IS8500 projects an 80-line omnidirectional scan pattern capable of scanning trucks at various distances."
DaimlerChrysler Supply Systems Specialist, Ken Paetkau stated, "We intend to deploy a significant number of additional HoloTrak scanners at all North American assembly and manufacturing facilities by the year 2000." He added, "Metrologic has provided our company with a high-speed, innovative solution for faster shipment processing. We are pleased with the immediate and long-term performance of HoloTrak."

Metrologic designs, manufactures, and markets bar code scanning equipment incorporating laser and holographic technology. The company's principal products are hand-held scanners, fixed projection scanners, in-counter scanners and industrial scanners. The company ships its products into more than 85 countries and is based in Blackwood, New Jersey.
