MSC Ships First Simulation, Visualization and Collaboration System for Windows/NT With New Working Model Products

    LOS ANGELES/COSTA MESA, Calif.--April 22, 1999--

Working Model Studio and View Drive Enterprise Collaboration for
Solving Real World Engineering Problems On the Windows Platform

MSC.Working Knowledge, a division of The MacNeal-Schwendler Corporation , is now shipping two new simulation products for design engineers and their collaborators -- Working Model Studio and Working Model View.
These new products, as part of the MSC.Working Model family, represent the first simulation, visualization and collaboration system available on a native Windows platform.
The MSC.Working Model family offers a range of simulation products and tools for communicating design information and real world product behavior throughout the enterprise and workgroup. "The Studio and View products extend MSC's mechanical simulation leadership into new areas across the manufacturing enterprise," said David Baszucki, vice president and general manager MSC.Working Knowledge. "With these powerful tools, designers can now communicate and collaborate with ease and put simulation up front in the conceptual design cycle to reduce time to manufacture."
"The release of the MSC.Working Model family of products has greatly increased our productivity. The ability to share assemblies with our CAD system and easily apply initial conditions allows us to solve complex mechanisms with ease," said Dave Ansbigian, principal engineer at Textron Systems, a beta site for the new release. "Working Model Studio's additional rendering tools, camera tracking, real-time visualization, and reliable motion simulation, gives me great confidence in predicting design behavior."
The new Working Model products seamlessly interface with popular desktop CAD systems from Autodesk , Parametric Technology , SolidWorks and Unigraphics Solutions , as well as support neutral file integration with Structural Dynamics Research Corp. , Think3 and Visionary Design Systems.

New Features Give Design Engineers Greater Understanding

Working Model Studio combines the engineering foundation of the MSC.Working Model family with sophisticated visualization features to enable authoring of simulated, physics-based animations of functioning virtual prototypes. Features include photorealistic rendering and texture mapping, multiple cameras and light sources, keyframed animations of parts, cameras and lights, and an auto-explode tool for quick animated exploded views of assemblies. For the first time, integration between true physics-based simulations and traditional keyframed animations is possible.
Working Model View provides a rich collection of design visualization and collaboration tools for the workgroup and enterprise. Features include the ability to view, annotate and redline 3D and 2D files, measurement and dimensioning, and playback of animations and physics-based simulations from other products in the MSC.Working Model family. Working Model View supports many popular 3D file formats from leading CAD vendors as well as neutral formats such as STL, SAT (ACIS) and IGES. A variety of 2D file formats including DXF and DWG are supported as well.

    Pricing and Availability

Working Model View retails for $500 and Working Model Studio for $3,000. Working Model Studio's list price includes one year of technical support and upgrades. All MSC.Working Model products and support are available now through MSC.Working Knowledge's worldwide network of authorized resellers.
