Third Straight Year California 500 Reserved Section Soldout; Over 200,000 Expected During Four-Day Weekend EventFONTANA, Calif., April 22 -- California Speedway announced today that all 86,450 reserved grandstand tickets for the May 2, California 500 presented by NAPA and all Infield RV and vehicle parking spaces have been sold, according to Scott Atherton, president and general manager, California Speedway. It marks the third straight season all reserved seating and Infield RV and vehicle parking spaces have been sold for the Sunday and weekend events. "The sellout represents the popularity of the event and how entertaining motorsports is in Southern California," said Atherton. "We are excited that so many of our guests continue to return for our events at California Speedway as well as attracting new guests to what could be considered the top sporting event in California. We have an exciting lineup of activities throughout the weekend and look forward to hosting our guests at the speedway and showcasing the event to a national television audience." Over 200,000 guests are expected to attend the NASCAR weekend which features the Sunday, May 2, California 500 presented by NAPA Winston Cup race, the Saturday, May 1 Auto Club 300 Busch Series, Grand National Division event and the NASCAR Winston West race. Record crowds continue to position the now two-year-old California Speedway as Southern California's biggest sports attraction. Last year's NASCAR Winston Cup California 500 presented by NAPA race attracted 114,440 race day guests, establishing the event as the largest attended sporting event in California in 1998. A limited number of Individual Weekend Wristbands for Sunday's race still remain at $40 each. Saturday tickets for the May 1 Busch Series Auto Club 300, the NASCAR Winston West race, NASCAR Winston Cup Happy Hour and the Chris Isaak musical performance still remain. Saturday reserved grandstand tickets are $35 and $40 and include all events. NASCAR Winston West practice and qualifying take place on Thursday, April 29 and tickets are $5. Friday's $10 ticket includes NASCAR Winston Cup and Busch Series qualifying and practice. A total of 53 drivers have entered the Saturday Busch Series, Auto Club 300 race including 17 regular Winston Cup drivers and last year's Busch Series champion Dale Earnhardt Jr. Saturday also includes the 200-mile NASCAR Winston West race and a special 90-minute evening musical performance by singer/songwriter Chris Isaak and his band in the California Speedway infield and a fireworks extravaganza.
