UT Automotive Named GM Supplier of the Year

UT Automotive Named GM Supplier of the Year
    DEARBORN, Mich., April 22 -- UT Automotive Europe, a United
Technologies company, has been selected as General Motors' Supplier
of the Year 1998 for its excellent performance as a supplier of wiring
harnesses.  The company was chosen from among more than 30,000 General Motors
suppliers.
    "UT Automotive is a premier supplier to GM's electrical commodity group of
Worldwide Purchasing," said Otto Jetter, General Motors executive director,
Worldwide Purchasing, Electrical.  "The 1998 Supplier of the Year award
recognizes UT Automotive for having achieved world-class levels of quality,
service, technology and price in support of General Motors."
    According to Harold R. Kutner, General Motors vice president and group
executive, Worldwide Purchasing and North American Production Control &
Logistics, the GM Supplier of the Year Awards represents the "best of the
best."
    "UT Automotive is one of only 184 that have achieved Supplier of the Year
Award distinction for 1998," he said.
    GM's Worldwide Purchasing organization is responsible for annual purchases
of nearly $86 billion in goods and services in support of the approximately
8.6 million vehicles GM produces in 30 countries around the world each year.
It's Supplier of the Year awards are presented in five global categories --
Electrical, Chemical, Logistics, Machinery & Equipment/Indirect and Metallic,
    The GM Supplier of the Year awards began in Germany more than 20 years ago
and expanded to all of GM Europe in 1989.  In 1992 it became an international
award for identifying companies that provide excellent performance in a given
year.
