Federal-Mogul Sevierville Lighting Plant Receives The Tennessee Quality Achievement AwardSOUTHFIELD, Mich., April 21 -- Federal-Mogul's lighting plant in Sevierville, Tennessee was awarded the prestigious Tennessee Quality Achievement Award and ranked in the top 20% of all facilities audited. The Quality Achievement Award is given to organizations that have, through commitment and practice of quality principles, demonstrated significant progress in building sound processes. The standards for this award are identical to those used for the Malcolm Baldrige Award. The facility is judged on leadership, strategic planning, customer and marketing focus, information and analysis, human resource focus, process management and business results. This award was received after an extensive written review of the facility, followed by an intensive three-day site visit by three program examiners. "It is an outstanding accomplishment for all individuals at our facility," said Dave Valkanoff, plant manager. "This award process provided us an opportunity to assess our facility achievements against the continuous improvement principles, allowing us to constantly challenge ourselves to improve our business practices." "This 250 member team made great strides in continuous improvement over the last two years," said Jim Boyd, director of lighting operations. "I am very proud of their efforts and focus on continuous improvement." The Sevierville facility was established in 1972 and manufactures sockets, connectors, forward and rear lighting, circuit breakers, hazard and turn signal flashers. The plant is QS 9000 and ISO 9001 certified and has received the Chrysler Gold Pentastar, Chrysler "Self-Certification" and the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation Pollution Prevention awards.
