General Motors Brazil Awards Emery Worldwide R$30 Million Annual Logistics Contract
REDWOOD CITY, Calif., April 21 -- General Motors do Brazil
(GMB) has awarded Emery Worldwide's Global Logistics unit a three-year
R$30 million per year (US$18 million per year) contract to handle the
automotive company's distribution of aftermarket parts and accessories to
dealers throughout Brazil as well as provide customer service and information
technology support.
Emery's logistics unit will manage the contract from two GMB warehouse
facilities in Sao Jose dos Campos and Sorocaba, strategically located outside
Sao Paulo. A dedicated Emery workforce will receive parts from GMB and
coordinate regular and emergency deliveries via truck and air to approximately
600 dealers across the country.
In selecting Emery to manage this important part of its aftermarket parts
supply chain, General Motors do Brazil has effectively reduced its carrier
base from 12 to one, streamlining the process of shipping more than 20,000
line items per day. Additionally, Emery will provide the country's GM dealers
with customer service support.
This is the seventh aftermarket parts distribution contract that Emery's
logistics unit manages on behalf of General Motors' international operations.
Emery also manages similar operations for GM in India, Germany, Turkey,
Thailand, Hong Kong and Argentina.
"Our goal is to facilitate the distribution process for General Motors in
Brazil, as we have done for General Motors in many other regions of the world,
including Argentina," said Roger Piazza, Emery's president and chief executive
officer. "We will continue to build our partnership and look forward to
assisting GM in meeting its goals in the Latin American marketplace."
Emery has been established in Latin America for over 20 years. With the
exception of Mexico, where Emery operates its own dedicated lift, the
company's strength lies in its capabilities as a freight forwarder and
logistics provider. The company operates through agency relationships and
maintains wholly owned offices in Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Mexico.
Emery's Latin America Area headquarters are based in Miami, Fla. in a 120,000
sq. ft. facility that includes a Logistics Center and international
import/export gateway as well as offices for Emery's brokerage and ocean
operations.
Emery Worldwide specializes in premium, time-definite transportation
services for business-to-business shippers of heavyweight cargo. A
$2.2-billion company, Emery provides global air and ocean freight
transportation, logistics management and customs brokerage services to
manufacturing, industrial, retail and government customers. Based in Redwood
City, Calif., Emery operates in 229 countries through a network of more than
560 service centers and agent locations around the world.
Emery Worldwide is a subsidiary of CNF Transportation Inc., a $5-billion
diversified transportation company based in Palo Alto, Calif.
