Delphi Designs Environmental Protection Upfront Through ISO 14001 Program
TROY, Mich., April 21 -- In an aggressive environmental
protection move, Delphi Automotive Systems is working toward
earning ISO 14001 certification for all 168 of its manufacturing facilities
over the next three years.
The ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems is a global standard which
recognizes facilities that have systems in place to proactively manage and
reduce their environmental impacts.
To date, Delphi has certified 15 manufacturing sites.
Thirteen of the 15 certified sites are in Europe, including five plants in
France (Sarreguemines, Sochaux, Strasbourg, Velleneuve and Villeron), five
plants in Portugal (Carnaxide, Castello Branco, Guarda, Linho and Ponte de
Sor) and one each in Germany (Neumarkt), Spain (Logrono) and Turkey (Izmir).
The remaining two certified Delphi sites are in North America, including
Matamoros, Mexico, and Grand Rapids, Mich., USA.
"We want to formally integrate our environmental management into the goals
of the business, and ISO 14001 is a great way to do that," said Marty Cristo,
manager, Delphi environmental management systems. "The program gives us a
mechanism to design solutions to environmental issues upfront and prevent
pollution before it becomes a problem later. ISO 14001 is an important step
in this process."
ISO 14001 relates to an environmental management system that includes
organizational structure, planning activities, responsibilities, practices,
procedures, processes and resources for controlling operations that impact the
environment while at the same time reducing cost to promote sustainable
business practices.
