Visteon Races Ahead with Dupont Engineering, Futaba Technology Alliance
LONG BEACH, Calif., April 16 -- Visteon Automotive Systems is
jumping into the fast lane again -- on the race track and in technology
development -- with the formation of a new strategic alliance that will
support the needs of the CART Patrick Racing Team and all Visteon customers.
Visteon is joining forces with DuPont Engineering Polymers and Futaba
Corporation of America to develop components and systems that will advance
automotive technology while offering leading-edge solutions to customers.
DuPont and Futaba will help sponsor the #20 car of Visteon driver PJ Jones
in the 1999 FedEx CART Championship Series season. The racing sponsorship
will offer Visteon, DuPont and Futaba an opportunity to further work together
on the development of next-generation automotive technologies in areas such as
powertrain control, climate control, and electronics.
"Visteon is committed to bringing high value, consumer-driven systems
solutions to its customers," said Craig Muhlhauser, president, Visteon. "Our
primary goal in racing, and in the formation of these kinds of strategic
alliances, is the development of visionary technologies that will benefit our
global customers.
"The materials expertise and experience DuPont offers will compliment our
advanced systems work, while our relationship with Futaba will assist us in
the exploration of flat panel display technology. We look forward to working
with these two organizations both on and off the race track."
In addition to the racing sponsorship, Visteon and DuPont will also
establish a team of key executives and systems experts that will meet
quarterly to coordinate and review technology programs.
"The innovative nature of this strategic partnership illustrates the level
of the technological breakthrough we're aiming at," said Craig Naylor,
president, DuPont Engineering Polymers. "We're looking for better ways to
delight the customer with longer lasting, less expensive vehicles. Strategic
alignments in the supplier community that are cemented with this type of
exciting framework can help drive the innovations we need to achieve those
goals."
"Racing has been a good business arena for Futaba," said Joe Dorris,
president, Futaba Corporation of America. "Joining Patrick Racing and Visteon
provides us with an exciting opportunity to participate with a quality team in
the CART series."
DuPont offers more than 100 automotive product lines in engineering
materials, including plastics, fibers, films and fabricated products,
specialty chemicals, lubricants and refrigerants. DuPont sales to the
automotive industry exceed $4 billion worldwide.
Futaba is the world leader of vacuum fluorescent display systems and radio
control systems used in automotive and consumer products. Futaba display
systems are used extensively in automobile instrumentation, radios and other
feature products.
With a global system of nearly 100 technical, manufacturing, sales and
service, facilities located in 20 countries, Visteon is leveraging the talents
of 74,000 employees to deliver innovative, consumer-driven automotive systems
solutions to its customers.
