Arvin Industries Elects Hunt Chairman of the Board

    COLUMBUS, Ind.--April 15, 1999--Arvin Industries, Inc. , today reported that V. William Hunt was elected Chairman of the Board of Directors following Arvin's Annual Meeting. The Arvin Board of Directors met following the annual shareholders meeting in its regularly scheduled quarterly session. Hunt succeeds Byron O. Pond as Chairman following Mr. Pond's retirement at the annual meeting.
    V. William (Bill) Hunt will add Chairman of the Board to his President and Chief Executive Officer title. Mr. Hunt, 54, joined Arvin in 1976 as Counsel, was named Vice President-Administration in 1980, Secretary and General Counsel in 1982, elected a member of the Board of Directors in 1983, and was named Executive Vice President in 1990. He became President and Chief Operating Officer in 1996 and was named Chief Executive Officer in 1998.
    Before joining Arvin, Mr. Hunt was a partner in an Indianapolis law firm that represented Arvin. He also served TRW Automotive Worldwide as labor counsel before joining Arvin in 1976.
    Mr. Hunt received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1966 and a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree in 1969 from Indiana University, and is a graduate of the Harvard Business School Advanced Management Program.
    Mr. Hunt is active in civic and industry affairs. He is past Chairman of the State Board of Trustees of Indiana Vocational Technical College. Currently, Mr. Hunt serves as Chairman of the Motor Equipment Manufacturing Association (MEMA) Presidents Council. He is a director of the Indiana University Foundation and is a member of the Indiana University Kelley School of Business Dean's Advisory Council, the Indiana University Well House Society, and the Heritage Fund Board of Directors.
    He and his wife, Nancy, have four children and reside in Columbus.
