Retail Lexus Sales On Rise In Atlanta

    MIAMI, April 15 -- Bolstered by growing demand for Lexus
sport utility vehicles (SUV), Atlanta-area Lexus dealers report a 53-percent
climb in March retail sales over the year-ago month.
    On a calendar year-to-date basis, Atlanta sales are 55 percent ahead of
last year.
    Calendar year-to-date sales leaders include the uniquely designed, car-
based RX 300 SUV, up 821 percent; the full-size LX 470 SUV, up 1534 percent;
and the GS 300 sports sedan, up 38 percent.
    Atlanta-area dealers include Nalley Lexus, Hennessy Lexus and its
companion store, Hennessy Lexus of Gwinnett.
    "Aided by the most competitive Lexus lineup ever, a strong economy and
favorable market indicators, our dealers are reporting a measurable rise in
showroom traffic," said Lexus Southern Area Manager Jim Melton.
    Nationwide, Lexus reported its best-ever March, a 42.8-percent increase
over the same period last year. Calendar-year-to-date sales for the nation are
up 45.2 percent over the year-ago period.
