Delphi: Famar Earns GM Supplier-of-the-Year Award for RadiosBUENOS AIRES, Argentina, April 14 -- Famar Fueguina, S.A. Delphi Delco Electronics Systems was recently named General Motors Supplier of the Year for 1998 and received the GM Supplier-of-the-Year award for cassette and CD radios produced at its facility in Rio Grande, Tierra del Fuego. Teams of purchasing, quality, engineering and manufacturing experts from GM operations around the world selected the companies recognized with the award. These teams reviewed supplier performance in quality, service and price during the 1998 calendar year. "We are pleased and honored that GM recognizes the value that Famar brings to the South American market," said Steve Irwin, Delphi Delco Electronics managing director of South American Operations and president of Famar. "We are committed to continue to build on this distinct honor through improvement in our products and processes." GM buys $86 billion in goods and services from more than 30,000 suppliers around the world in support of the 8.6 million vehicles it produces annually. Of those suppliers, only about a half of one percent were recognized with the General Motors Supplier-of-the-Year award. This is the third time Famar has received the award. It received the award before in 1995 and 1997. "GM's Suppliers of the Year represent the 'best-of-the-best,'" said Harold R. Kutner, vice president and group executive, Worldwide Purchasing and North American Production Control & Logistics. "Of GM's 30,000 suppliers, Delphi is one of only 184 that have achieved Supplier-of-the-Year distinction for 1998, an honor accorded by those suppliers who have achieved world-class levels of quality, service, technology and price in support of General Motors."
