Toyota Reports Best-Ever Certified Used Vehicle Sales for Second Straight Month

    TORRANCE, Calif., April 14 -- Toyota Motor Sales (TMS),
U.S.A., Inc., reported today the best-ever month in Toyota Certified Used
Vehicle sales history and the first time it has sold more than 10,000 units in
one month.  March sales of Toyota Certified Used Vehicles totaled 10,333, an
increase of 37.5 percent compared to the same period a year ago, and
19.4 percent more than the previous all-time record set last month.
    "Not only is this the second month-in-a-row that we have set an all-time
best-ever sales record, but it also is the first time that we have sold
10,000-plus certified used vehicles in a month," said Guillermo Hysaw, TMS
corporate manager, used vehicle operations department.  "We have set sales
records every month this quarter which corroborates our brand statement, 'the
best new cars make the best used cars'."
    The Toyota Used Vehicle program, established in 1996, provides the best
pre-owned warranty in the industry.  The warranty, from date of first use,
includes six-year, 100,000-mile powertrain coverage, as well as an optional
comprehensive 100,000-mile vehicle service agreement.  And, 24-hour roadside
assistance also is provided free of charge for one year.

    All 1995-1999 Toyota models with less than 55,000 miles are eligible for
the program.  Prior to sale, each vehicle receives a rigorous 128-point
inspection of all mechanical and safety functions, as well as overall
appearance considerations.
