Exide Reaches Three-Year Pact With United Auto WorkersREADING, Pa., April 13 -- Exide Corporation , one of the world's largest suppliers of lead acid batteries, has signed a three-year agreement with United Auto Workers Local 1829 which represents its workforce at its plant in Burlington, Iowa. Under the terms of the agreement with the UAW the covered workforce will receive a lump-sum bonus equal to three percent of salary in the first year, followed by three percent raises in each of the next two years of the contract. Jack J. Sosiak, Executive Vice President for Human Resources at Exide, said, "We are very pleased with both the contract and the level of commitment to Exide expressed by our UAW employees and their union representatives." The Exide plant at Burlington, Iowa, is the company's only battery production plant represented by the UAW and employs more than 200 workers. Randy Parker, President of United Auto Workers Local 1829, said, "This is an excellent contract for our workers and is the end result of one of the smoothest negotiating periods we have ever had with the company."
