Pep Boys Debuts Moose TV -- Commercial --
PHILADELPHIA--April 13, 1999--Pep Boys has debuted a new thirty second national television commercial featuring a talking moose.Highlighting Pep Boys' expertise at vehicle brake service for cars and light trucks, the commercial features two outdoorsmen driving down a dark road. A series of road signs warn them of "Moose Crossing," "Really Big Ones," and "We're Not Kidding." The hunters laugh until they are surprised by a huge moose standing in the middle of the road.
After screeching to a quick halt just in front of the creature, the animal asks if the men got their brakes at Pep Boys. When they nod yes, the moose thanks them and ambles off into the woods.
"We wanted to show in a dramatic fashion that our brakes have superior stopping power," said Michele Meiers, Pep Boys' Director of Advertising. "It's critical to demonstrate stopping capability, but we wanted to do that in a fun, non-scientific manner. Using the size and majesty of a moose helped us do that. Plus a talking moose is funny!"
The commercial was shot in Los Angeles by Visitor Productions of Venice, Ca., and featured Scott Ferrall as the voice of the moose. The advertising agency handling Pep Boys' account is DDB Needham - Chicago.
