USCAR Names New Communications DirectorSOUTHFIELD, Mich., April 13 -- Paul C. Wood of Ford Motor Co. is communications director for the United States Council for Automotive Research (USCAR) effective immediately through March 1, 2000. In this position, he is responsible for communications for USCAR -- the umbrella organization that coordinates collaborative and pre-competitive research projects for DaimlerChrysler, Ford and GM -- and the industry-government Partnership for a New Generation of Vehicles (PNGV). He succeeds Beryl Goldsweig of Ford, who retired and plans to attend law school. Previously, Wood was a manager in Ford's governmental affairs function for the past four years. Before that, he was the manager of external affairs for Ford's Financial Services Group, and has held a variety of other positions during his nine-year career with the company. Prior to joining Ford, Wood was a vice president of corporate planning and development at Chase Manhattan Bank in New York City. He received a bachelor of science degree in mathematics and a master of science degree in statistics from Ohio State University in 1980 and 1982, respectively. Wood lives in Bloomfield Hills, Mich., with his wife, Judy, and two sons, J.P. and Tim. USCAR research and development deals with safety, emissions, alternative power sources, lightweight materials, electrical components, recycling, and -- under its PNGV effort with the government, suppliers and universities -- technologies that can lead to more fuel efficient vehicles.
