EQ Awarded GM Resource Management Contract; Warren Powertrain Agreement Creates a Framework to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle Industrial Wastes
WAYNE, Mich.--April 12, 1999--EQ - The Environmental Quality Company announced today that it has signed a three-year resource management agreement with General Motors Corporation to manage all industrial wastes generated at the GM Powertrain plant in Warren, Michigan. The agreement was signed last week and took effect on April 1.
"This is truly a mutually beneficial agreement for EQ and General Motors," explained David Lusk, president of EQ and its related entities. "EQ will use its expertise to lower GM's operating costs by eliminating or recycling wastes whenever possible, so General Motors can get out of the waste management business and concentrate on building world class vehicles."
As part of the agreement, EQ is providing a dedicated, in-plant resource manager to manage all plant waste streams and implement a continuous improvement plan to eliminate or recycle materials that are currently landfilled. EQ will also assist the plant environmental staff with ISO 14000 certification and provide training in the safe management of hazardous materials.
"General Motors is excited about its new relationship with EQ," stressed Mel Gilmer, resource management program manager for GM Worldwide Engineering. "We are confident that EQ can use its 40 years of environmental experience to find new and better methods of managing wastes at Warren Powertrain. Our goal is to improve the quality of environmental services, while simultaneously reducing costs."
