Student Auto Skills Competition Winners Named During Food Lion AutoFairCONCORD, N.C., April 8 -- Greenwood County Vocational Center in Greenwood, S.C. and Iredell Statesville ATC in Statesville, N.C., have something to brag about today. Each school had a winning team in the Student Auto Skills Competition held earlier today during the Food Lion AutoFair at Lowe's Motor Speedway at Charlotte. Donovan McBride and David Laughlin, seniors at Greenwood County Vocational Center, and their instructor Lonnie Holloway were the winners from South Carolina and Justin Taylor and Jeremy Walker, seniors at Iredell Statesville ATC, and their instructor Martin Page were the North Carolina champions. These two teams beat 18 other North and South Carolina high school teams who opened the hoods this morning on identically "bugged" new cars with the goal of diagnosing, identifying and repairing the problems. Each winning team received an expense-paid trip to the national finals in June in Washington, D.C. The competition was sponsored by AAA and Ford Motor Co. Participants' names and contest results are distributed to Ford dealers, AAA-affiliated service facilities and many other sponsoring organizations with a need for auto service. The Food Lion AutoFair continues tomorrow through Sunday at Lowe's Motor Speedway at Charlotte. Hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Ticket prices are $8 for adults; children under 12 are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Parking for the event is $5.
