Borg-Warner Automotive Powertrain Systems Facility Achieves ISO-9001 and QS-9000
    CHICAGO, April 5 -- Borg-Warner Automotive, Inc.
announced today that the company's Powertrain Systems facility in
Seneca, South Carolina, has received its ISO-9001 and QS-9000 certifications.
The certifications were issued on March 19, 1999.
"The attainment of QS-9000 means we have met or exceeded the stringent
requirements of an industry-sanctioned benchmark for excellence," said Timothy
M. Manganello, president and general manager, Borg-Warner Automotive
Powertrain Systems. "As such, it represents a significant achievement for
Powertrain Systems and its employees, and is strong evidence of the
Borg-Warner Automotive commitment to product leadership."
John Beattie, vice president of operations at the Seneca facility, said,
"The QS-9000 process is not just a one-time event. It is a total and
continuous dedication by all to meet our customers' expectations, and provide
products and services which continually improve over time."
QS-9000 is short for "Quality Systems Requirements QS-9000," a worldwide
common supplier quality standard for DaimlerChrysler, Ford Motor Company,
General Motors and some heavy duty truck manufacturers. Based on the 1994
edition of ISO-9001, QS-9000 encompasses these standards, as well as
additional requirements particular to the automotive industry.
QS-9000 certification is a requirement for doing business with the North
American automotive industry. The certification process involved an extensive
audit of the company's overall operating systems by Underwriters Laboratories,
Inc., a third-party auditing firm. Retention of the certification will
require successful completion of semi-annual audits by this same auditor.
Borg-Warner Automotive's Powertrain Systems Group is the largest
independent global designer and producer of transfer cases and systems for
four-wheel and all-wheel drive vehicles for the sport-utility and light truck
markets. Major customers of the Seneca facility include Mercedes-Benz, Isuzu
Motors Ltd. and General Motors Corp.
Chicago-based Borg-Warner Automotive, Inc. is a product leader in highly
engineered components and systems for vehicle powertrain applications. The
company operates 44 manufacturing and technical facilities in 13 countries
serving worldwide vehicle manufacturers. Customers include Ford,
DaimlerChrysler, General Motors, Toyota, Caterpillar, Navistar and VW.
