New March Sales Record Continues Fast Selling Pace for American Honda
TORRANCE, Calif., April. 1 -- American Honda continued its
record-setting 1999 sales pace started the first two months of this year with
sales of 87,132 -- beating the standing record for the month of 85,116 set in
March 1996. A 55.3% increase in truck sales and record highs for three
individual models boosted the company to its third consecutive monthly sales
record for the year.
Honda division reported sales of 77,837 for the month, a 0.6 percent
increase over March 1998 and the 23rd consecutive month of record sales for
Honda division. The Odyssey minivan, introduced last fall as a new model, set
a new March record of 5,041 -- a 290.5 percent increase over March 1998 and
its fourth month of triple-digit sales increases. CR-V sales set a record of
10,088 -- a 34.9 percent increase over March 1998. The strong Odyssey and
CR-V sales contributed to a new record for March light truck sales for
American Honda of 17,112 -- beating the March '97 record of 12,113.
The Acura 3.2TL set its seventh consecutive monthly sales record with
sales of 4,318, topping the mark of 3,047 set in March '97, a strong factor in
Acura's continued resurgence. Acura division sales totaled 9,295 for the
month.
