Nissan Reports March Sales Increase

    CARSON, Calif., April 1 -- The Nissan Division of Nissan
North America, Inc. (NNA), posted March sales of 48,807 units, an increase of
0.8 percent versus last year.
    The Nissan Quest continues to show strong sales since the launch of the
all-new four-door model last November.  With sales of 4,536 units in March,
Quest turned in an increase of 91.8 percent over last year.
    The Nissan Sentra reported sales of 5,834 units, up 8.4 percent over last
year.  The Nissan Altima posted sales of 15,768 units, a 7.0 percent increase
versus last year.  Nissan Maxima reported sales of 10,249 units.  Nissan's
electric vehicle, the Altra EV, continues to show receptivity in the market
with sales of 15 units in March.  Total car sales were 32,207, up
1.6 percent versus last year.
    Total truck sales for March were 16,600 units, led by the Frontier pickup,
which reported sales of 6,078 units.  The Nissan Pathfinder posted sales of
5,986 units.
    Sales of Nissan's North American-produced vehicles for March totaled
32,466 units, which represents 66.5 percent of all Nissan vehicles sold in the
United States.
    Total NNA sales for March, including Nissan and Infiniti Divisions, were
56,367 units, an increase of 4.0 percent over last year.  Nissan Division
closed its fiscal year with sales of 560,492 units.
    Nissan North America, Inc., which includes the Infiniti luxury Division,
markets and distributes vehicles in the United States to more than 1,200
dealers.
