Audi Sales Up 32.7 Percent for March -- Best First Quarter Since 1986 With 29.6 Percent Increase
    AUBURN HILLS, Mich., April 1 -- Today Audi of America, Inc.
announced its March sales in the U.S. with 4,448 automobiles sold, a 32.7
percent increase over the same month last year when sales were 3,352.  These
results mark Audi's best March and best start of the year since 1986 with 1999
year-to-date sales of 11,459.  This accomplishment is a 29.6 percent increase
over last year's first quarter results.
    Leading the way for Audi in March was its daring A6 range. Sales of A6
sedans were up 74.7 percent in March over last year (1,716 vs. 982).  A6
Avants were selling at an even higher rate with a 204.3 percent increase (499
vs. 164).  Overall the A6 model range experienced a 93.3 percent increase over
year ago.  Audi's all aluminum flagship, the A8 4.2, contributed to a banner
March with a 15.1 percent increase (183 vs. 159).
    Audi has displayed this kind of year-over-previous-year sales increase for
over four years (50 of the last 52 months).
