FEATURE/Christie's International Motor Cars, Concours On Rodeo and the Petersen Automotive Museum Join Together to Present the First Annual California Classic

    BEVERLY HILLS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE FEATURES)--April 1, 1999-- The California Classic encompasses the four-day-long celebration of the greatest collection of automobiles in the world. Event details are as follows:

    Thursday, June 17, 1999, Cars & Stars Gala -- 6:30 p.m.

    The Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles will play host to the second annual Cars & Stars Gala. The evening will include the unveiling of "Surf's Up! The Great American Woody."
    Additionally, guests will have access to a preview of the Christie's Exceptional Motor Cars Auction that will be held at the Petersen Automotive Museum on the following Saturday afternoon.     Friday, June 18 to Saturday, June 19
    California Classic Rallye

    Friday morning 40 of the automobiles from the Concours on Rodeo will gather to participate in a European-style rally. The caravan will leave Rodeo Drive, tour the back roads and the California coastline to Santa Barbara/Santa Ynez and stay overnight.
    Saturday morning all Rallye participants will leave Santa Barbara and wind their way back through the rural hills of Ojai, ending at the Petersen Automotive Museum -- just before the start of the Christie's auction.

    Saturday, June 19
    Christie's Exceptional Motor Cars Auction -- Scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.

    The world's oldest and most prestigious auction house will present a fabulous auction at the Petersen Automotive Museum. Christie's will conduct its sale of more than 40 extraordinary automobiles on Saturday at 2 p.m. -- all vehicles will be on view from June 17 through June 19.

    Concours on Rodeo

    More than 80 of the world's finest cars will decorate Rodeo Drive for the second annual Concours on Rodeo, June 20, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This Father's Day celebration, which takes place within the exclusive Beverly Hills shopping district, is the grand finale of the four-day-long California Classic and is free and open to the public.
    Presented by DaimlerChrysler, the entire three blocks of Rodeo Drive between Wilshire and Santa Monica Boulevards will be carpeted and closed to traffic to showcase these one-of-a-kind vehicles, many of which have never been seen in Southern California.
