    FAIRLAWN, Ohio, March 31 -- GenCorp announced
today that its board of directors has elected Michael E. Hicks to the position
of Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, effective immediately.
Mr. Hicks has served this role in an acting capacity since February 12.

role for GenCorp.  This is a natural transition given Mike's 21 years of
experience with the Company, his knowledge in all aspects of finance, and the
solid relationships he has established in the financial community," said
Chairman and CEO John Yasinsky.
    Mr. Hicks joined GenCorp in 1978 and has held various positions in the
corporate systems, customer financial services and treasury departments.  In
1987, he served as manager, banking and cash management, and in 1988, was
named director, treasury for GenCorp.  He was appointed Treasurer for the
corporation in 1994, and heads investor relations for GenCorp.
    A native of Akron, Ohio, Mr. Hicks earned a bachelor's and master's degree
in business administration-finance from the University of Akron.
    Mr. Hicks and his wife, Sheila reside in Hudson, Ohio and are the parents
of three children.
    GenCorp is a $1.7 billion technology-based manufacturer with leading
positions in performance chemicals, decorative and building products,
aerospace and defense and automotive industries.
