Standard Products Named a GM Supplier of the Year
    DEARBORN, Mich., March 31 -- The Standard Products Company
has been selected as a General Motors Supplier of the Year 1998
for engine and chassis mounts.  The Company will receive GM's Supplier of the
Year Award at a celebration in Detroit on Wednesday, May 5.  In all, suppliers
from 29 countries will receive awards.
    Companies recognized were selected by teams of purchasing, quality,
engineering and manufacturing experts from GM operations around the world.
These teams reviewed supplier performance in quality, service, technology and
price during the 1998 calendar year.
    The GM Supplier-of-the-Year awards are a long-standing tradition at GM.
The awards began in Germany more than 20 years ago and were expanded to all of
GM Europe in 1989.  They became an international award in 1992.
    "GM's Suppliers of the Year represent the 'best of the best,'" said Harold
R. Kutner, vice president and group executive, Worldwide Purchasing, North
American Production Control & Logistics.  "Of GM's 30,000 suppliers, The
Standard Products Company is one of only 184 that have achieved Supplier of
the Year distinction for 1998, an honor accorded to those suppliers who have
achieved world-class levels of quality, service, technology and price in
support of General Motors," he said.
    Standard Products manufactures engine and chassis mounts and other
vibration control components for North American original equipment automotive
manufacturers at its facility in Mitchell, Ontario, Canada.  Top officials
from GM's worldwide purchasing management will visit the plant following the
Detroit event to present the prestigious award to the entire team.
