SPX & Gateway Agree to Provide Computers to GM Dealers

General Motors Dealer Equipment, SPX Service Solutions & Gateway(TM) Agree to Provide Computers to GM Dealers
    WARREN, Mich., March 31 -- Service Solutions, a unit of SPX
Corporation , today announced an arrangement with Gateway(TM),
Irvine, California to offer computer packages to GM Dealers through the GM
Dealer Equipment program it administers for General Motors Corporation.
    Under the agreement, Service Solutions (through GM Dealer Equipment, GMDE)
will market special computer packages to General Motors' Dealers in the United
States.  Initially, four (4) complete packages, including an Intel(R) Pentium
III version will be offered.  All Gateway(TM) packages offered by GMDE carry a
3-year on-site service and support warranty and can be conveniently ordered
and billed to dealers using their GM parts open account system.
    The initial rollout by GMDE will focus on offering Gateway(TM) Computers
to support GM Dealership Service Departments and Technicians with Electronic
Service Information (E.S.I.).  The approved computers also have applications
for other departments within the dealership.
    GM Dealer Equipment will launch a marketing communications plan to inform
dealers regarding the complete details of this unique sales and service
agreement.  The communication will include the capability to assist GM Dealers
with selecting and ordering "GM approved" Gateway(TM) computer packages.  A
direct mail package and website communication will also feature information on
the computer ordering and program options.
