Delphi Manufacturing Facility Becomes ISO 14001 Certified By BSIFLINT, Mich., March 30 -- Delphi Energy & Engine Management Systems' Grand Rapids facility, which produces hydraulic valve lifters for passenger car and truck engines, became the first Delphi plant in the U.S. to receive ISO 14001 certification. The plant was certified by the British Standards Institution. ISO 14001 relates to an environmental management system that includes organizational structure, planning activities, responsibilities, practices, procedures, processes and resources for controlling operations that impact the environment while at the same time reducing cost to promote sustainable manufacturing business practices. "Reaching ISO 14001 certification is a tremendous accomplishment and proves that (the employees of this facility) are working toward the same goal -- to protect the environment," said Delphi Energy President Donald L. Runkle. Delphi Automotive Systems became the first worldwide automotive systems supplier to reach ISO 14001 status in 1996 when Delphi Packard Electric Systems operations in Sochaux, France, received certification. "Every employee associated with the certification should be very proud for not only playing a role in preserving the environment, but for being the first Delphi plant in the U.S. to achieve such recognition," said Fred Brown, plant manager of Grand Rapids operations.
