Microphonics Expands Ultrasound Technology to Automotive World

Microphonics --OTC BB: MRPS-- Expands Ultrasound Technology to Automotive World

NASHVILLE, Tenn.--March 30, 1999--Microphonics (OTC BB: MRPS) representatives have completed extensive demonstrations and testing at Delco Remy International, Inc., world headquarters in Anderson, Indiana and one of their subsidiary companies, Franklin Power Products, Inc., in Franklin, Indiana.
Tests were performed on several possible applications with the Model 111RCK diagnostic ultrasound unit on diesel engines and numerous components. The Microphonics unit is electronically programmed to listen for high frequency signature sounds that indicate a future possibility of product defects in terms of leaks, bearing wear and certain electrical problems.
These characteristic ultrasounds are "translated" to audio and visual signals that engineers can monitor and interpret to gauge the quality of numerous manufacturing and product testing applications. Processes or products which are performing properly have a characteristic sound or silence which says everything is working to specification. In the earliest stages of malfunction, this characteristic sound changes, first in the ultra sound frequency range (approx. 40,000 hertz), and then, as the defect deteriorates over time, to the point at which the human ear begins to notice the sound change (10,000 hertz).
The Microphonics ultrasound detection units are "trained" to ignore ambient sounds of noisy factories or engines and only listen to the "signature" ultrasounds which indicate a potential problem, long before a major breakdown or downtime issue develops. This proprietary technology enables in-house technicians with only a short one-day training session, to expertly monitor equipment performance and product quality while reducing maintenance and warranty costs.
Most recently another major O.E. and aftermarket manufacturer and remanufacturer have conducted extensive tests using 111RCK unit. Based on initial evaluation of the Microphonics equipment at Delco Remy International's world headquarters in Anderson, Indiana, engineers have identified significant potential applications and costs' savings. Delco Remy International, Inc., expects to enter into purchase agreements with Microphonics in the near future.
The list of new customers is growing as companies follow the lead of General Motors, Ford and Delco Remy International into the new frontiers of quality and cost savings offered by Microphonics' unique technology for industry.
