Republic Industries Appoints Irene B. Rosenfeld To Its Board Of Directors
    FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., March 29 -- Republic Industries, Inc.
today announced the appointment of Irene B. Rosenfeld to its Board
of Directors.
    Ms. Rosenfeld, 45, is President of Kraft Foods, Canada, the country's
largest manufacturer and distributor of packaged food and food service
products.  Prior to becoming president in 1996, Ms. Rosenfeld had been an
Executive Vice President and General Manager of both Kraft's Desserts and
Snacks and Beverages Divisions.  She began her Kraft Foods career in 1981.
    A graduate of Cornell University with bachelor's of arts, master's of
science and doctorate degrees, Ms. Rosenfeld is a member of the President's
Council of Cornell Women.  She also is a member of the Board of Directors of
the Food & Consumer Products Manufacturers of Canada.
    Ms. Rosenfeld's appointment brings the total number of Republic Industries
board members to 10.
    Republic Industries, Inc. is the country's largest automotive retailer,
with approximately 380 franchised automotive dealerships in 20 states and 45
AutoNation USA used vehicle megastores in 13 states.  Republic also owns and
operates National Car Rental Systems, Inc., Alamo Rent-A-Car, Inc. and
CarTemps USA.  Additionally, the Company owns 63.9 percent of Republic
Services, Inc. , one of the leading providers of non-hazardous
waste collection and disposal services in the United States.
