Thomas D. Rooney Named President of Filters and Hydraulic Systems at SPX

    MUSKEGON, Mich., March 29 -- SPX Corporation
today announced that it has named Thomas D. Rooney as President of Filters and
Hydraulic Systems.  He succeeds Alex Kummant, who has been named President of
the company's Lightnin business.
    Before joining SPX, Mr. Rooney was Chief Executive Officer and President
of Multigraphics, Inc., Mt. Prospect, Illinois, a distributor of electronic
pre-press equipment, graphic arts supplies and technical service to the
printing industry.  Mr. Rooney joined Multigraphics in 1973 and held several
positions of increasing responsibility in finance, sales and operations.
    Prior to his position as Chief Executive Officer and President, Mr. Rooney
was Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.  He holds a Bachelor of
Science degree in Finance from DePaul University.
    Commenting on the announcement, John B. Blystone, Chairman, President and
Chief Executive Officer, said, "We are excited to have Tom join SPX.  His
experience growing a public company through operational improvement and
acquisitions, combined with his strong business finance background, will be an
important addition to the leadership team."
