Association of International Automobile Manufacturers Appoints William A. Boehly Vice President of Vehicle Safety AIAM The Association of International Automobile Manufacturers, Inc. (AIAM) announced today the appointment of William A. Boehly to the position of Vice President of Vehicle Safety. Boehly will be responsible for supporting the safety positions of member vehicle companies.     ARLINGTON, Va., March 29 -- The Association of International
Automobile Manufacturers, Inc. (AIAM) announced today the appointment of
William A. Boehly to the position of Vice President of Vehicle Safety.

    Boehly will be responsible for supporting the safety positions of member
vehicle companies. He will provide the capability to respond proactively to
vehicle safety issues and comment upon proposed safety regulations.
    "Bill Boehly's extensive experience in motor vehicle safety will enhance
the ability of AIAM and its member companies to play a leading role in auto
safety," said Phil Hutchinson, president and CEO of AIAM.
    Boehly will direct AIAM's participation in government vehicle rule-making
programs and ensure member companies are informed of future regulatory
direction.
    Boehly was most recently president and chief operating officer of the
Automotive Occupant Restraints Council, an organization committed to improving
crash protection for motor vehicle occupants.  Prior to that he was an
automotive safety and regulatory consultant, providing services directed at
improving motor vehicle safety.
    For 28 years, Boehly served in various positions at the National Highway
Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the organization within the U.S.
Department of Transportation responsible for ensuring and improving the safety
of motor vehicles on the nation's highways.  In his position at AIAM, he will
maintain and build upon the organization's good relations with NHTSA and auto
safety advocates.
    Boehly, who holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering
and a Master of Science in Engineering Administration from George Washington
University, began his career as a safety engineer.
    AIAM is the trade association representing the U.S. subsidiaries of
international automobile companies doing business in the United States.
Member companies distribute passenger cars, light trucks and multipurpose
passenger vehicles in the U.S.  Nearly two-thirds of these vehicles are
manufactured in the New American Plants established by AIAM companies in the
past decade.
