Delphi Automotive Systems and AlliedSignal Team Up To Provide Heavy Duty ABS Systems
TROY, Mich., March 26 -- Delphi Automotive Systems
has announced that it has formed a strategic alliance with
AlliedSignal Truck Brake Systems (ASTBS) to develop and manufacture its next
generation of Bendix anti-lock braking systems (ABS). The new alliance will
utilize the technical and manufacturing expertise of both companies to provide
ABS systems for the heavy duty truck market.
Through the joint development and supply agreement, Delphi Delco
Electronics Systems will supply the electronics for the Bendix ABS system that
will be marketed by ASTBS in early 2000. The companies did not release the
dollar value of the agreement.
"We believe that Delphi and AlliedSignal will both benefit from this
relationship that is built around innovative technology and a unique supplier
arrangement," said Dave Wohleen, president of Delphi Delco Electronics
Systems. "Joining forces with AlliedSignal to develop and produce these heavy
duty advanced braking systems is a win-win-win approach for Delphi,
AlliedSignal and heavy duty customers. Our alliance allows our companies to
deliver a sophisticated ABS system to the market using established areas of
expertise and thereby creating a highly efficient business model."
The advanced ABS system will use Power Line Carrier (PLC-4 Trucks)
technology which sends spread spectrum chirps between the tractor and trailer
ABS controllers. The unique Power Line Carrier technology eliminates the need
to add additional lines or pins on the standard tractor to trailer (J560)
connector harness. The system provides advanced diagnostic communication,
trailer ABS status information and advanced control functions.
"This alliance is a natural fit that will help us speed the development of
future braking systems," said Jeff Sinclair, president of AlliedSignal Truck
Brake Systems Co. "AlliedSignal contributes our substantial experience in
commercial vehicle brake systems and Delphi Automotive Systems brings its
depth in vehicle electronics. The synergy of the alliance will assist us in
our goal of providing a next-generation ABS product that provides our
customers with the best technology and the greatest value."
