MPI Receives $1M Order From New Customer to Manufacture Systems for Y2K Compliance Testing
SAN DIEGO--March 26, 1999--Microelectronic Packaging Inc. (MPI) (OTC BB:MPIX) announced today that it has received an initial $1M order from Akcess2K Inc. to manufacture test systems used to test embedded computer systems for Year 2000 compliance.MPI will provide complete turnkey manufacturing services and all systems will be shipped in 1999.
"We are extremely pleased to be selected by Akcess2K and this is our first major manufacturing contract awarded since we announced our QuickTurn Turnkey Manufacturing(TM) program," said Dudley Westlake, vice president of sales & marketing. "We are also excited about the opportunity to contribute our engineering expertise in supplying systems for embedded computer Y2K compliance testing," added Pete Hudson, Ph.D., vice president of technology.
"U.S. companies are under great pressure to ensure Y2K compliance of their embedded systems and we needed a combination of high quality electronic assembly plus a commitment for fast cycle time with volume production to meet the market requirements for the Delta-T Probe test systems and that is why we selected MPI," declared James Plante, president of Akcess2K.
"There is a very significant business opportunity for my company but we must be able to deliver reliable systems well before the end of the year and we are confident that MPI will perform for us," added Plante.
Microelectronic Packaging Inc. (MPI) serves the rapidly growing Electronic Manufacturing Services (EMS) marketplace as a high-density interconnect solutions company providing design, high volume manufacturing, and testing capabilities. MPI satisfies the requirements of electronic systems and integrated circuits (ICs) manufacturers.
Headquartered in San Diego, with on-site manufacturing facilities, the company develops, manufactures, and sells OEM high density miniature microelectronic assemblies to customers in the commercial, medical, military/aerospace, telecommunications, automatic test equipment (ATE) and electronics-related industries. Akcess2K Inc. is the exclusive North American Licensee of the Delta-T Probe. The Delta-T Probe is specifically designed to answer the two questions that determine embedded systems compliance. It will: (1) verify the presence of time and date information within an embedded system, and (2) capture the relevant code from which risk failure can be determined.
Traditional methods of auditing embedded systems and examining the entire firmware code to determine if compliant are reduced from weeks to hours using the Delta-T Probe. The Delta-T Probe has already been proven in European applications and is regarded as truly a "breakthrough" product. The company is located in San Diego. Their Web site can be found at www.akcess2k.com.
