General Motors Selects Deneb Robotics For Digital Manufacturing
DETROIT--March 17, 1999--In an effort to further reduce lead-time and build factories more efficiently, General Motors (GM) has selected Deneb Robotics, Inc., a Dassault Systemes S.A. company, as its strategic global partner for next generation digital manufacturing and computer-aided process engineering technology.Deneb systems provide the latest technology to design manufacturing plants on a computer screen before any physical construction, ensuring that everything is running smoothly before any equipment is put into the factory. This is valuable because problems can be detected early and fixed before construction or product changeover takes place.
Deneb's digital manufacturing products will be used throughout GM's engineering operations for process design, work cell layout, robotic applications, development of factory floor work instructions, and programming and validation of automated equipment.
Digital design of manufacturing facilities is considered a key component of GM's fast-to-market product development strategy because it enables concurrent product and process engineering from idea through implementation.
Deneb will be working closely with Unigraphics Solutions, GM's computer-aided design (CAD) provider, to deliver a seamless math data (computer graphics) pipeline from product design through manufacturing.
"The capabilities the Deneb products bring to GM will allow us to leverage the investment and successes we have achieved with Unigraphics in product development," said Clif Triplett, product information officer for General Motors. "By developing our production environment simultaneously with the product design, digital manufacturing will allow us to take our math-based strategy to the next level."
"We appreciate the opportunity to work hand in hand with GM and Unigraphics," said Rakesh Mahajan, chief executive officer for Deneb. "We believe GM is a world leader in implementing best-in-class digital manufacturing technology and we look forward to our new role as GM's key supplier in this arena."
