Ford Gives First World Excellence Awards To 47 Global Suppliers for 1998 Performance
DEARBORN, Mich., March 17 -- The Ford Motor Company
awarded its highest recognition -- the World Excellence Award -- to
47 suppliers for their superior performance in respective categories in 1998.
World Excellence Awards are a new, annual recognition based on quality,
cost and delivery metrics that were jointly developed by Ford and its
suppliers. The 47 suppliers from seven countries won 65 awards in various
categories.
"These suppliers are world-class -- an exclusive club of Ford's top
partners. They made extraordinary contributions to Ford that helped make 1998
a very successful year and helped deliver high quality and value to our
customers," said Carlos Mazzorin, Group Vice President of Purchasing and Ford
of Mexico. "Performance like this deserves to be recognized."
The awards were presented at a special dinner last night honoring the
winners and attended by about 125 of Ford's largest production and non-
production suppliers from around the world.
There are four different types of World Excellence Awards.

The Platinum Award is for the parent company of suppliers with multiple
businesses that excel in all target areas -- quality, cost and delivery -- in
all of its units.

The Gold Award is given to the business units of suppliers that excel in
all three areas; five supplier business units won the Gold Award.

The Silver Award is given to the business units of suppliers that stand
out in one or two of those three areas; 35 supplier business units won the
Silver award.

A final category -- Recognition of Achievement -- is given to suppliers
for special accomplishments, such as Outstanding Supply Performance,
participation in the Warranty Reduction Program pilot or Minority Supplier
Development; Recognition of Achievements were given to 25 supplier sites or
businesses.
