Meritor Automotive Names Paul R. Ryder Vice President, Investor Relations
    TROY, Mich., March 11 -- Meritor Automotive Inc.
announced today that Paul R. Ryder has joined the company as vice president,
Investor Relations.
    In this role, Ryder is based at Meritor's global headquarters in Troy and
will report to Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Thomas A.
Madden.
    Ryder is responsible for the development and implementation of Meritor's
world-wide investor relations program.  He will work closely with Meritor
senior management to develop and communicate shareowner value-enhancing
strategies.
    Ryder, with more than 25 years of experience in the automotive industry,
most recently served as vice president, Investor Relations for Echlin Inc., a
$3.5 billion manufacturer and distributor of motor vehicle parts.  The
addition of Ryder to the Meritor team further demonstrates the company's
commitment to meeting the unique information needs of the investment
community.
    "Paul's depth of experience in the investor relations area, particularly
within the dynamic automotive industry, well positions him to effectively
communicate Meritor's businesses, strategies and strengths to the investment
community.  Paul will develop and implement strategies to increase market
awareness in the global investment community of Meritor and its commitment to
delivering superior shareholder value," said Madden.
    Meritor, with 1998 sales of more than $3.8 billion, is a global supplier
of a broad range of components and systems for commercial, specialty and light
vehicle OEMs and the aftermarket.  Meritor consists of two businesses:  Heavy
Vehicle Systems, a leading supplier of drivetrain systems and components for
medium- and heavy-duty trucks, trailers and off-highway equipment and
specialty vehicles, including military, bus and coach, and fire and rescue;
and Light Vehicle Systems, a major supplier of roof, door, access control,
suspension and seat adjusting systems, and wheels for passenger cars, light
trucks and sport utility vehicles.
