More than 180 of the nation's top minority automotive suppliers are attending the conference. The mission of the Automotive Matchmaker is to bring purchasing agents from major automotive suppliers and vehicle manufacturers together with minority business entrepreneurs with the goal of increasing minority business within the auto industry. The conference is hosted by Delphi Automotive Systems and the Dayton Minority Supplier Development Council. Ray Campbell, vice president of Delphi Global Purchasing states, "Delphi Automotive Systems recognizes the importance of teaming with our minority suppliers for success. Delphi has a thirty-year history of including minority suppliers in our purchasing activity. We feel it is especially appropriate to strengthen this tradition through the 1999 Automotive Matchmaker." Guy Hachey, President of Delphi Chassis Systems, provided the keynote address for the conference. "Delphi has challenged its direct suppliers to source five percent of their goods and services from minority business entrepreneurs," Hachey said. "The Automotive Matchmaker is an excellent vehicle to help us accomplish that directive." The conference began with an 8 a.m. breakfast at the Dayton Convention Center, hosted by Hachey, Campbell, and Betty Banks, President of the Dayton Minority Supplier Development Council.
